The Niels Bugge Cartoon Award is described as a world championship for cartoonists, and its published catalogues serve as the archive of that tradition. Each volume gathers the winning cartoons together with the finalist selection from a given competition year, giving readers a chance to see how the jury judged humour, timing and originality in the same year the prizes were handed out. The catalogues also document recurring themes, including Utopia, which framed a recent edition of the award.

The catalogue collection spans several award years, beginning with the early editions and continuing through the middle years of the competition. Alongside the regular award-year publications, a dedicated Boligan special appears, highlighting work connected to that particular context. Together these volumes form a browsable sequence rather than a single snapshot, so the development of the award's style and standards can be traced year by year through the cartoons themselves.

Beyond the winning entries, the catalogues reveal the range of voices and drawing traditions that the jury considered. Cartoonists from different countries appear in the pages, and the selection illustrates how a single annual theme can produce sharply different readings, from gentle irony to pointed social critique. Visitors can compare reactions to the same theme across years, and observe which subjects – equality, diversity, oceans, and life in general – repeatedly attract the attention of cartoonists with a sense.

Every catalogue is treated as a publication in its own right, presented in the site's shop area where each volume can be viewed and examined before choosing a copy. The design keeps the emphasis on the artwork: generous spacing, clean neutral backgrounds and a strong purple accent for the primary calls to action, letting the cartoons remain the focal point. Additional pages on the site cover news, articles and reference material connected to the award's history and its notable contributors.

Reading the catalogues is also a way of understanding the award's own point of view. The judges reward cartoonists who combine humour with meaning, and the published selections show how that balance was resolved in practice across many entries and many juries. Winners are listed clearly, with prize placements marked, so both committed readers and casual browsers can find the cartoons that defined each edition and the ideas behind them.
