The Niels Bugge Cartoon Award is presented as a world championship for cartoonists, an international competition where professional and amateur draughtsmen are judged on the power of their ideas, humour and craft. Each edition is built around a single theme that the submitted cartoons respond to, ranging from the philosophical to the playful, and the winning works are collected in a printed catalogue. The award is organised by the association behind it and has been held annually for many years, giving cartoonists from dozens of countries a recurring platform for recognition.
The winners gallery gathers the first, second and third prize recipients from each edition, so visitors can browse the laureates year by year and study how different artists interpreted the same theme. Themes have included Utopia, Artificial Intelligence and other subjects suited to social commentary and satire. Alongside the gallery, the catalogues preserve the full selection of drawings from every edition, offering a broad survey of international cartooning. Prize placements are listed plainly, making it easy to follow the shortlist and revisit the cartoons that carried the competition.
